 Promoting and Protecting Women and Girls during Covid-19 crisis

Year : 2021-2024

 The goal of the project is to promote the elimination and prevention of violence against women and girls in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, namely, that women and girls in  Tbilisi region feel better protected from violence in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To achieve this goal, the project uses a multidimensional approach to the problem of violence against women and girls.

 • Primarily, the project responds to the increased risks of domestic violence and violence against women and girls and aims to address their needs in individual assistance and support. For this purpose, the project will promote the availability of psycho-social support services (individual and group) - providing them with psycho-social rehabilitation, as well as their empowerment through skills training and acquisition of new knowledge.

  •  Secondly project aims at raising awareness and DV/VW prevention activities among the representatives of the target groups of the project - adults and adolescents. Also for the general audience/public.

• Thirdly  project envisages advocating the issue of introducing supervision/supervision practices in institutions providing services to women and domestic violence victims/victims in order to increase the quality and effectiveness of said services.           

 

Promotion of women's empowerment and gender equality

Project aims to promote gender equality and tackle gender-based violence (GBV) through women /girls' empowerment and dealing with gender stereotypes/ social norms that underlie inequality and violence.

The goal of the project is to take into account the needs of women in vulnerable situations

with a special emphasis on victims/victims of domestic violence, women with disabilities, mothers of children with disabilities, women representing ethnic minorities. By increasing their access to psycho-social services and developing computer literacy and professional skills.

 

 Overcoming Harmful Gender Stereotypes

  1. Assist highly vulnerable IDP sub-groups (e.g. mothers with many children, single mothers, families without breadwinners, children, teenagers and victims of violence)

Domestic Violence – Promoting Public Opinion Development

Project donor: Oxfam

Years of implementation: 2003-2004

Project objectives:

  1. Rehabilitate domestic violence victims by providing psychological and legal consultations

  2. Develop recommendations for legislative regulation of domestic violence in the following fields: physical abuse; procedural legislations; alimony; common property of spouses, and inheritance

  3. Lobby the developed recommendations in governmental structures

  4. Shape public opinion through various media platforms (e.g. press articles, advertisements, publicising the centre’s research)

  5. Monitor police response to domestic violence cases in two police departments of Tbilisi in order to identify specific law-enforcement practices of dealing with domestic violence cases and develop recommendations for improvements of appropriate responses

  6. Conduct training for police officers; the training will be developed on the basis of the results of the monitoring in the same police departments

  7. Conduct lectures on the role of police in combating domestic violence in the Police Academy of Georgia
